Colten Krauter has been writing songs since he was a kid. It took until 2025 for one to reach anybody who did not already know him.
He grew up in Maple Valley, Washington. His parents, Lance and Susan, wrote and recorded their own music at home, so there was a studio in the house before he knew that was unusual. He got a guitar at ten, moved to drums a few years after that, and by his late teens was cutting his own demos and working the rest out as he went.
He was ten or eleven when he made the first record. Frosty was made by a bunch of flakes is a few songs he wrote with his sisters and a couple of Christmas covers, the whole thing doing its best to sound like Relient K and Slapstick. He made 15 is a nICE AGE at fifteen, named after his favorite movie. Both were cut at home and handed to whoever would take one.
After that the songs mostly stayed on hard drives. The writing carried on and so did the recording, they just stopped going anywhere. Road Trip and Jesus Saves are both more than a decade old, which is a strange thing to say about songs that came out last year.
In May 2025 he got laid off from a software job at Starbucks. That turned out to be the push. He started putting the old songs out and writing new ones.
He lives in Montana now with his wife and their four kids. The songs are about love, faith, and the ordinary business of getting through a week.
All songs are written, performed, produced, and recorded independently by Colten Krauter in a home studio.
